Why was the book frankenstein banned?

I’m studying Frankenstein for my university class and one reason could be that Frankenstein (the character) was playing God by creating life. Perhaps people were sensitive to this. Also, the creature was never caught and caused innocent people to die. I think specifically of Justine. She was executed wrongly by the government. Perhaps those in power didn’t want to be seen as fallible.
