Why was the battle of bull run fought?
There were two battles of Bull Run during the War Between The States.Assuming you are making reference to the first one,it was fought mainly because Abraham Lincoln pushed the Union commander of the Army of the Potomac General Irvin McDowell to go south and look for a fight. He found one and got completely whipped. Those Yankee boys ran as fast as they could back to Washington. In the second battle,Stonewall Jackson thrashed another Yankee army and sent them running.Seems Union troops weren’t very good at attacking or at orderly retreats.Mob marathons were their expertise. So long as Stonewall Jackson was alive, the North never won a major battle in Virginia.
