Why was the Ark placed in the house of Obed?
After David took the Ark of the Covenant from Abinadad s house, he put it in the house of Obed-edom, a gentile Gittite who was King David’s bodyguard. The Ark remained there for 3 months (1 Chr. 13:9-10) and the house of Obed-edom was blessed. When King David heard the Ark had brought blessings to Obed-edom s house, he called for the Ark to be brought to the City of David. The Ark of the Covenant being a blessing in Obed-edom s house foretells that the Gentiles would be blessed with the Holy Spirit which took place seven years after the Jews received it on the Day of Pentecost. This was confirmed by the prophet Joel who stated: And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, … (Jl. 2:28-29).
