Why was the apple the fruit used to tempt Adam and Eve?

Actually, the apple is a steretypical version of the actual unknown forbidden fruit. Many say it was an apple, but I seriously doubt it was anything close to what we have, not to mention how big it probably was. Temptations are used by God to test people, and He expects us to pass these tests, for if they passed it, they would have learned the truth that they wanted to know eventually, but they were impatient and just too curious, though that subtle serpent Satan didn’t help, shedding doubt on what God said.
