Why was the anime of Shaman King canceled but the manga continued?

Actually, both the manga and the anime have ended in Japan. Shonen Jump cancelled the manga abruptly (in 2004) and threatened to not release the last volume (32) unless there was sufficient demand. This was due to declining popularity of the series in polls. Eventually, it was released and as of 2006, the manga has ended in Japan. The anime was aired by 4Kids Entertainment in the USA in 2003 and ran in its’ entirety until 2005. The actual show ran from 2001-2002 in Japan. The manga is still being released in the USA and has quite a few volumes left to go. Many anime based on manga ends up getting cancelled or drawn out (filler). Once the anime has run through all the manga chapters, there’s really little to show so, aside from making up their own story, the show gets cancelled or littered with filler (such as Bleach or Naruto). That the show ran only up to 2002 while the manga continued until 2004 is actually a very common occurrence.
