Why was Sweden not conquered by Germany in WW2 ?
Sweden did act as a refuge for many Jews fleeing the Nazis but it also acted as a refuge for Finish children fleeing the Russians. Finland had been invaded by the Soviets and once Germany invaded Russia a your enemy is my enemy relationship developed between Finland and Germany. Sweden, like Switzerland had a long history of neutrality and they basically acquiesced to all German demands so that the Nazis didn’t see them as a threat. For example the Germans were allowed to use Swedish railroads to transport troops from Norway to Finland and while the Swedes had no sympathy at all for Germany they were extremely sympathetic to Finland and were providing consistent aid to the Finns. The Swedes also had a very large and strong military that would have given the Germans fits and since the Germans were already getting all that they wanted from Sweden without fighting there was no reason for them to risk stretching their military even farther than they were already stretched.
