Why was Reagan VOTED the Greatest American EVER?

Reagan closed all the mental hospitals and created the homeless problem that we still have today. There are statistics on how many “near misses” and accidents as a result of Air Traffic Controllers who now work too many hours because there is no union to prevent that. The Soviets brought THEMSELVES to their knees. That would have happened no matter WHO was president of the US at the time. Tell me precisely WHAT Reagan did to bring the Soviets to their knees. There is something really wrong with a list that puts GWB at number 6 of all time best presidents. That should be a clue for any thinking person. Okay, you are right. Clinton lied about having sex with the intern, and Bush lied 934 times about the reason we are in Iraq. Not one American died because of Clintons lie.

lol… Greatest American… that’s rich…. Your list of accomplishments are simplifications and untrue – bringing the Soviets and Taliban “to their knees”…. that’s rich! The Soviets did themselves in by unsustainabley spending 2/3 of their entire budget on their military while ignoring domestic needs, and the Taliban were never a threat to begin with – they’re back in the hills of Afghanistan running corrupt tribal feudalism. We should never have gone into Iraq in the first place. People tend to vote for Presidents they actually know. As people alive today actually lived through Reagan, they are more likely to be nostalgic about him instead of Lincoln or old Presidents who they didn’t live under, much less know much about at all. You can ease up on your “Republicans are the best” bias just a LITTLE bit. Edit – GWB in the top 10?? ROFL! Yeah, that gives that list a lot of credibility. People vote for Presidents they are familiar with. If this poll was taken 30 years ago, I bet you Fo

“I loved it when Reagan fired the Union babies at Air Trafic Control” The airline industry never recovered. We’ve had a shortage of air traffic controllers ever since. “Reagan Brought the Soviets to Their Knees” The Reagan administration was as surprised as the rest of us by the collapse of the Soviet Union. It collapsed under the weight of its failed policies, corruption, and mismanagement. The Taliban is alive and well. Georgie got Saddam at the price of several hundred billion dollars, but he had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. “Clinton Brought a 19 year old Chubby Intern to Her Knees” And grew the economy and the prosperity of the United States of America with the help of a Republican congress.. Bush has failed miserably.

Although I wasn’t in support of everything that transpired during his administration, I respected him as our president more than any other in my lifetime for one primary reason. He made me proud to be an American again. I served in Viet Nam and the aftermath of that conflict in this country was far from our proudest period. The corruption of the Nixon administration, treading the water during the Ford administration, then watching the economy go to hell in a hand basket with the slow learning peanut farmer Carter in the white house…..we desperately needed someone to make us proud of our great heritage again. Reagan did that more than any other in recent history. You have to respect that. At least, I do.

Reagan brought the soviets to their knees did he? Hmm, that is what we call ‘interpreting history’. What he did was put pressure on the USSR, a country that was economically unsound. The claim is that the USSR tried to keep up with the missile race and went bankrupt, the reality is they would have gone bankrupt with or without the arms race. Gorbachev’s policies also helped a lot, but cannot be considered the main reason for the downfall of the USSR. Dubya brought saddam to his knees, whoopie do, it was bush backed by an effective army that did it, and it was bush’s policies after the war that were so bad they nearly caused civil war. Reagan is known best in foreign countries for going into countries, taking down leaders who were democratically elected, supporting dictators like Pinochet, doing dodgy deals all over the place. He was a shame to anyone who considers democracy, freedom and liberty important. Bus wanted to be a reaganist but was even worse, and just as much a shame.
