Why was pure iron used to build the Eiffel Tower?
Eiffel was an engineer specialist in metal structures. He knew, and appreciated much, the possibilities of iron as a building material. He was also the manager of a big building company, who built one of the biggest metal bridge, “le viaduc de Garabit” in the Cantal region. The two members of his company who designed the tower in the first place were also engineers and specialized in metal structures.
