Why was police officer Deanna Mory fired from her position?”
The Chula Vista Police Department is finding out that its beauty queen is a drama queen, too. The CVPD recently fired 24-year-old Deanna Mory, but she’s filed a lawsuit contesting the action as a form of retribution. The police department has ostensibly fired Mory for stealing a $17,000 engagement ring from her former fiance after the two split. But Mory’s lawyer says the police department has no right to litigate who owns an engagement ring in a failed engagement. Mory, who is currently working as a security guard, says there’s another reason why the deparment wants her out. A superior gave her approval to travel to Las Vegas and participate in the Ms. United States Pageant, but another superior vetoed the appearance. Mory went to Las Vegas to compete anyway, and she says the department has been out to get her ever since.
Deanna Mory would be wise not to ask the Chula Vista, CA, police department for a recommendation. Why? Well, first and foremost, they just gave 24-year-old Mory the boot after her former fiancé accused her of stealing the $17,000 diamond engagement ring she originally returned after the breakup. Chula Vista spokesperson Bernard Gonzales declined to get into specifics on Mory’s sacking, but did confirm that she and the department have “separated,” an exceedingly polite euphemism. This isn’t the first time Mory’s gone up against police brass. The stunning beauty filed a lawsuit in January of 2006 after officials forbade her from participating in national beauty pageants. According to Mory, the firing’s simply an act of retaliation, but Mory refuses to let the brouhaha get her down. She said, “It’s been difficult, but somebody told me a long time ago: ‘Just remember you’re not the one losing sleep at night, because you didn’t do anything wrong.” Mory’s attorney, Greg Petersen, couldn’t be
