Why was NDP started?
Because of the documented faith of our founding fathers, public prayers and national days of prayer have a long-standing and significant history in American tradition. The first call to prayer was recorded in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked citizens to pray for God’s guidance in forming this new nation. Many adversities during our history have brought us to our knees. The NDP stands as a call for us to humbly respond to God’s promise to Solomon recorded in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by Name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.” Is NDP a political event? NO – The NDP belongs to all Americans. It is not owned by any one group. Each spring, the President is required to issue a proclamation.
