Why was NARCAP founded?
A comprehensive review of fifty years of U.S. pilot reports of unidentified aerial phenomena uncovered more than one hundred very intriguing close encounters with aircraft in which safety of the flight appeared to be affected. Since most pilots are hesitant to report their sightings and close encounters due to a long-standing attitude of ridicule and fear of career impairment, NARCAP was founded to establish a completely confidential reporting center for pilots, radar operators, and air traffic controllers using a toll-free phone number and by other means.
