Why was MLK chosen to be the 3-5 school for the western cluster?
MLK was chosen because it was the largest of the three facilities and because of its proximity to WMS. Targeted professional development is planned to improve the transition from 5th grade to middle school and to facilitate the consistent implementation of the upper elementary/middle school curriculum. Students who are familiar with each other and who have formed friendships in grades 3-5 are expected to have fewer adjustment or discipline problems when moving up to the middle school level. Teachers at MLK and WMS will have opportunities to collaborate and collectively plan for smooth transitions and consistent curriculum implementation in both schools.
