Why was maximillen robespierre executed?
To put it simply, Robespierre was a bad, bad man. He was chiefly responsible for The Terror during The French Revolution. Tens of thousands of French citizens were executed, most without legitimate cause, during The Terror and the guillotine became a fearsome symbol of Robespierre’s power. The French Government put Robespierre in charge of the Committee of Public Safety which sounds like a nice group, but they were really tasked with executing anyone suspected of being loyal to the king or against the Revolution. So when the Thermidorian Reaction happened (basically a revolt against the revolters) Robespierre was one of their chief targets.
