The mob used their influence to help Kennedy win Chicago and Illinois in the 1960 Presidential election. Kennedy’s father, Joseph asked the mob for help without John’s knowledge. The mob thought they helped him win (Kennedy narrowly defeated his opponent) and was expecting the new Kennedy administration to turn a blind eye to organized crime for helping in the election. Instead, John appointed his brother Robert as the new Attorney General and they vowed to bring down organized crime in America. The mob felt that JFK betrayed them and sought revenge. P.S. With Robert as Attorney General, federal convictions against organized crime rose from 14 in to 1960 to 373 in 1963.

Today’s thinking is that Oswald was insane, and wanted the notoriety that would follow the murdering of a president. His personal history indicated that might be true. Kennedy wished to end communism, and Oswald had ties there. And no one can argue that one person was capable of succeeding with an assasination attempt. Oswald could have acted alone, all it took was a secluded place, good aim and the right weapon. Sorry to say, Kennedy himself was involved in his own assasination, he ordered the open car and insisted on using it, despite Secret Service warnings not to. Kennedy was the first Catholic president, he came from a wealthy politically powerful family. He was young and powerful himself, and was pushing for major changes in the world.
