The NVQ programme provided a generic syllabus and did not meet the needs of either BAE Systems or the officers. There was a skill gap which the NVQ programme failed to close. An understanding of securing a defence industry facility and airfield An understanding of vetting, Aspects of legislation, which are not normally applicable to a security officer, for example, an understanding of the Official Secrets Act and its ramifications. Technological aspects of securing highly sophisticated technical equipment and emergencies which may arise when working on an operational airfield and manufacturing facility. How long did it take to develop the course? It took three months from inception to full accreditation by Edexcel.
