Why was Grapes of Wrath banned?
At the end of the book, the eldest daughter (who was pregnant) was abandoned by her husband and shortly after, her baby died in childbirth. The Joad family comes across a starving old man and the eldest daughter makes the decision to save the man’s life by breastfeeding him. During the time of the books release, it was considered “vulgar” and was banned in some regions.
