Details are sketchy, but Gahan was reportedly “rushed” to the hospital. According to the AFP, organizers hinted that Gahan might have suffered from “suspected gastroenteritis” and could potentially perform tomorrow if his condition improved, but no official word has been issued. Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan fell ill and was rushed to an hospital in Athens, Greece on Tuesday, May 12, 2009. The band had to cancel their scheduled concert at the last minute. French news agency AFP reports that Gahan suffered from “suspected gastroenteritis”. Gahan became ill in his dressing room as the concert crowd was gathering at the Terra Vibe Park venue approximately 30 miles north of Athens. The crowd of between 20,000 and 30,000 was told the show would be canceled. Spectators were told to retain their tickets in case the singer was well enough to reschedule the concert for Wednesday. The band is scheduled to play Istanbul on Thursday. No word yet on any further cancellations. Depeche Mode is currently promoting their new album, Sounds of the Universe, on their Tour of the Universe.
