Why was burning needed? Wasnt enough vegetation burned during the Old Fire?
A. Although a great deal of chaparral was burned during the Old and Grand Prix Fires, extensive areas of dead fuel remain on the Forest, threatening local communities. The Upper Santa Ana Burn Project was designed to prevent fires from burning uphill from the San Bernardino Valley into the Big Bear area by removing the brush on the hillsides below the ski areas.
