Why was (and is) America so afraid of Communism?

America is essentially a capitalist economy, though there have been a lot of bail outs by the government. Communism is the exact opposite of capitalism, with state owned corporations or in other words, “Public Sector Undertakings’. It’s more of an ego issue that reached its peak during the Soviet Era, when USA was finding it difficult to prove communism wrong as USSR was equally or even more powerful than USA. That’s why US spies made USSR collapse by fooling Michael Gorbechev. Today US focus is on China, which is very cautious with the US. I personally prefer Capitalist economy over Communism.
