Why was a CAPTIA Syphilis-G EIA test performed on a Non-Reactive TRUST specimen from a child?
Since a significant number of congenital syphilis cases may be asymptomatic, a non-reactive TRUST result may not rule out previous infection. Therefore, all specimens from patients 12 years old and younger are tested for CAPTIA Syphilis-G EIA, which would remain reactive if the patient had been previously infected. This testing protocol may also help identify cases of suspected child abuse.
