Why wait for decades, when wine can be aged before the guests arrive?
The WAVE Ultra Sonic Wine Ager and Refrigerator (rendered with Electrolux livery) keeps several bottles at the right temperature through a magnetic “magnetocaloric” cooling system, a process where certain elements heat up or cool down upon exposure to magnetic fields. Fronting the storage unit is a touchscreen door with a dynamic interface. Through it the owner can access information on each wine bottle and see which wines need serving soon. When a new bottle is put in, the owner attaches an RFID tag to it and tells the WAVE how long it should age. Directly in front of each receptacle is a colored graphic circle. As the wine nears the perfect serving time, the corresponding circle grows brighter. By accessing all this information without opening the door to check the bottle, the WAVE hopes to minimize energy wastage. Whether this wine cabinet concept will hit the market or not remains a matter of speculation.
