Why Visit Brighton, East Sussex?
Brighton, a city on the south coast of Great Britian, attracts 80,000 tourists every year. The city is known as the gay capital of Britian because of its large LGBT community, in addition to its annual Gay Pride carnival in August and Winter Pride event in March. The city of Brighton was established prior to the 11th century, but didn’t attract the notice of citizens until the 1700’s, when it became known as a health resort. Once the destination became reachable by train in the early 19th century, it became popular as a spot to take a day trip. The original city, known as Bristelmestune, burned down in 1514 during a battle between English and French soldiers, so very little of the medieval city remains intact today. However, part of St. Nicholas Church in Brighton does date back to the Middle Ages. There is quite a bit to do in Brighton, depending upon one’s interests.
