Why Vasco da Gama is remembered to all?
Vasco’s life at a glance was extremely significant for that time. On his first sea voyage he became the first European to travel to India which at the time was seen to be impossible. Here he established vital trading posts that shaped Portugal’s future. Da Gama’s second voyage was based on other circumstances. The King had set the task of establishing commercial relations and to spread Christianity to Pedro Cabral. He failed with this task and reassigned it to Da Gama who travelled back to his original trading post and was faced with a revolt from the local indigenous people. He then travelled to a nearby native kingdom where he was welcomed. He returned to Portugal with Gold and Silk and was appointed Admiral. On his final voyage he was sent back to India to take the job of Viceroy. A few weeks after his arrival he contracted Malaria. He died on Christmas Eve that year.
