Many people think it’s a difficult thing and they avoid discussing it for fear of looking dim. If you’re smart about it, you don’t paint a bare piece of drywall or wood without primer — or the surfaces will suck up the paint and leave a less-than-perfect finish on the paint. Same goes in the application of wallpaper. If you’re smart about it, you don’t put up wallpaper on any surface unless you use a wall covering primer before applying it or the wet glue will sink into any pores in the surface and make it difficult to adjust the paper while it is still wet. Later, after the glue has attached itself firmly everywhere, and especially in any porous places, removal of the wallpaper will not only be time-consuming at the outset, but may require much patching and sanding of the surface after large chunks of wall have fallen prey to old wallpaper paste.
