Why use the medium of film as a teaching tool?
Due to the high proportion of illiteracy on the continent, and the cost and logistical difficulties of distributing books, AEFF has decided to use film as its teaching tool, accompanied by fact sheets containing supplementary information which teachers can use to encourage further study and discussion. A single video tape can educate hundreds of people, whereas a single book can only educate one or two at a time. In addition, visual images can be very powerful, and often stay in the mind longer than the written word. As a secondary, though no less important, priority, AEFF films will be narrated in English and many other languages, and distributed to educational institutions in USA, Europe and Asia. In this way, with a single film, the conservation message can be spread far and wide, and make a truly significant impact the world over, for generations to come. This international aspect of AEFF s work is important because environmental problems are global problems. What happens in Africa
