Why use Tatami Omote as a target?
FAQ’s First, let us say that there is no perfect target material, period, including tatami omote. There are certainly other materials that can successfully be used to make cutting targets. Each material will tell you something about your cutting ability based on the visual record of how your blade passed through the target and whether or not you were able to cut all the way through. You have to decide what you are trying to learn, and gain, from your cutting practice before you pick a material to use for your targets.
