Why use serological markers?
Serological marker testing significantly reduces the amount of time, and the number of procedures required for your physician to accurately diagnosis disease. Diagnosis frequently involves a biopsy (removal of a small amount of the intestinal lining). Serological tests offer physicians an effective and patient-friendly tool which is not an invasive procedure, and just requires a blood sample, thus avoiding unnecessary patient hardship.
Serological markers possess a predictive nature and identify the disease or its course prior to symptoms and further progression. Based on an over 90% positive prediction value (PPV – the percentage of positive test results that are correct) the tests are an important tool to rule-in patients and reduce significantly the period of time, as well as the procedures required until final diagnosis confirmation. Several genetics studies showed serological markers are associated with genetic markers and are involved in the path physiology of the disease.
