Why use relative URLs when absolute URLs will work anywhere?

When you use an absolute URL, a request has to be sent out to find the domain that is being pointed to, even if that request is coming from the same domain. Basically, it’s like sending someone out of the country before they can come back in and follow directions to the place they’re looking for, and this can be a real waste of time. It won’t take as long as physically leaving a country and then returning, of course, but it does take time and will slow down the loading of images and pages.
