A thousand Mosquito fish will consume an average of 250,000 to 300,000 Mosquito larvae per day, a huge dent in the mosquito population, before they ever hatch while the absence of chemical sprays allow natural predators like dragonflies, bats, and birds to attack the existing adult mosquitoes. They are extremely hardy and will tolerate and thrive in just about any standing water, regardless of pH or oxygen content. If water levels get low, they tend to multiply faster in the warm shallows.
