There are many reasons. Redwood has been a popular choice of material for making signs. However Redwood supplies are dwindling and it is getting increasingly difficult to obtain choice material. Unlike Redwood, H.D.U. will not absorb moisture yet ultraviolet light from the sun will deteriorate exposed H.D.U.. That is why it is important to completely seal the material with primer and finsh coats. Also H.D.U. can be sand blasted to achieve the raised grain effect that Redwood produces.
