Why Use Handcrafted Soaps?

0

Hand crafted soaps are made with natural products, containing no drying petroleum products or detergents. Through development over the years, it is not the harsh lye soap that many people may remember their grandmothers making. While all soap is made with lye, none is contained in the finished soap. Glycerin is a by product of soap manufacturing, so when you combine fats/oils (triglycerides) and a base, the end product is soap and glycerin. The glycerin comes off the triglyceride molecule. Commercial soap manufacturers remove all the glycerin because it’s a valuable commodity to sell separately. It’s also (one reason) why commercial “soap” is so drying on the skin. In handcrafted soap the glycerin remains (which is why all handcrafted soap-opaque or otherwise-is true “glycerin” soap). The finished soaps are gentle and very soothing to your skin producing a nice lather rich in glycerin. Handcrafted soaps gently lift the soil on your skin into suspension so it can be washed away.
