Why use FFDShow Tryouts rather than a codec pack?
Well it’s simple. FFDShow is a directshow filter designed to decode almost any video format. Unlike codec packs, it takes only 1 install and if you don’t like it, it takes only 1 uninstall. Codec packs will entrench themselves into your system and leave behind many unreferenced registry entries which can wreak havoc on any modern system. – Install FFDShow Tryouts Begin by downloading FFDShow Tryouts. It’s important to note that FFDShow Tryouts is not the same as FFDShow. FFDShow Tryouts contains over a hundred bug fixes and is updated on a regular basis, whereas FFDShow support has been largely discontinued. After you have downloaded FFDShow Tryouts, run the executable and install FFDShow with all of the defaults. When you come to this screen, make sure you choose “Disable Mixer”. For some odd reason, FFDShow Tryouts likes to force a mixer by default. This changes the quality of sound and if you like audio reproduced accurately, disable the mixer.
