Why use a wire instead of a draft?
Essentially, wire transfers provide two advantages over drafts: speed and security. While drafts are generally sent by mail or courier, wires are electronic instructions for monetary transfers that can be sent and received within two business days in most cases. As such, wires can be easily traced so the risk of loss or theft is minimal compared to physically sending a draft.
