Why use a logical framework?
The logical framework (logframe) is a useful tool in the design and planning, implementation, and monitoring of a project. It also makes it easier to report on a project, highlight changes and to adapt the project accordingly. DFID recommends the use of the logframe because: • It brings together in one place a clear, concise and accessible statement of all of the key components of a project; • It clarifies and exposes the logic of how the project is expected to work, separating out the various levels in the hierarchy of objectives, and helping to ensure that inputs, activities, outputs and purpose are not confused with each other; • It identifies the main factors related to the success of the project; • It provides a basis for monitoring and evaluation by identifying indicators of success and a means of quantitative or qualitative assessment.
