Why use a damper instead of strakes?

0

Strakes increase the shape coefficient on the upper 1/3 of the stack from 0.7 to 1.4. This doubles the loads on the upper portion of the stack, which can cause the entire stack and foundation to become significantly more expensive. A damper adds some dead load and wind load, but it is usually not a significant impact to the stack. There are some instances (Scruton Number < 8), where strakes are not a recommended solution. In this instance, only a damper will be sufficient. In addition, strakes should not be used when interfering stacks exist. In nearly all cases, Our Dampers will be much more economical than Strakes. If you would like to find out which option is best on your stack, we will do a free comparison.
