Why unhappily married men wouldn’t get a divorce?
Men are sometimes reluctant to get a divorce for various reasons. The man often comes out of a divorce financially worse off, is often the one who is left looking for a new home, even if he has made the greatest financial contribution to the purchase of the marital home, may end up paying maintenance to his ex-wife and his children for years to come, giving him effectively the expense of running two homes in the future, and placing a financial sanction on him and any future family he may have. A divorce in England still has to have someone “at fault”, and this is normally him, even if the “blame” is simply used as a legal device to facilitate the divorce. Plus of course, and this is his biggest concern, he will have to live apart from his children, excepting in the highly unusual event that he should end up with custody, and possibly have to face in the future the prospect not only that his ex-wife will find another partner, but that her new partner will adopt his role as a father figu
