Why the Sadly Broke address? Surely that brings up bad memories?
It used to! Bradley Stoke got renamed Sadly Broke in the 1990s after a housing crash pushed many homeowners into negative equity, where their mortgages were worth more than their houses. We picked the name because many Bristolians still call it by that name. But, instead of some wag getting the address and creating a website about the town’s previous problems, we thought it would be better to claim it now and make something positive out of something negative that happened in the past.
