Why the name Ancrum Mountaineering Club?
AMC was formed (in 1976) by a group of keen walkers who met on various outdoor courses organised by Ancrum Activities Centre at Dundee. We enjoyed each other’s company and decided to form a club after a few trial runs. Ancrum Mountaineering Club was chosen as the name as the outdoor centre was our common link. Incidentally, a few other clubs were spawned in a similar manner, namely the Ancrum Canoe Club and Ancrum Karate School. The Karate School is still very active and has its own premises in the Seagate, Dundee. The Ancrum Canoe Club is also very much alive with its own web site. The Ancrum Outdoor Education Centre (as it is now called) is still in existence and runs courses in outdoor activities, and hires gear. Perhaps you are wondering about the name of the Ancrum Outdoor Centre. Simple. It is located in Ancrum Road, Dundee.
