Why the knock on recruiting “experts”?

Maybe this belongs on the recruiting board, but it’s not directly related to the recruitment of players, so I’m not sure. Anyway, I don’t understand why people like to diminish recruiting experts when a 5-star recruit doesn’t pan out, or a 2-star becomes an All-American. Stars are just a form of someone’s evaluation of talent, and in most cases are probably done sincerely. Talent evaluation is never an exact science, and many things come into a player’s development. Evaluations / opinions from gurus on sites like Rivals and Scout are easily dismissed by some if they don’t like the rating, like those people are hacks. But, what’s really interesting to me is how overlooked it is when the very best coaches in college and the NFL miss on talent with the players signed and in the draft. Seriously, compare Ryan Leaf with Tom Brady – the best in the world miss sometimes. Okay, not that big a deal, but the lack of perspective is a pet peeve of mine and I feel better now.
