Why The Hills Have Eyes?

It was actually Wes Craven who got things off the ground in the first place. He’d seen Switchblade Romance in Los Angeles at a screening that my agent had set up for him. He loved it and since he’d already been looking for someone to remake The Hills Have Eyes he asked us if we had seen it and if we’d be ready to consider an original approach for a remake. So we had a meeting and then my co-scriptwriter Gregory Levasseur and I went back to France, got to work on it and fortunately we came back to him with ideas he liked. Then we started going around the studios together and things developed really quickly. We were lucky with the timing: We were in the right place at the right time. The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre was such a success and survival movies from the 1970s and 1980s are really popular again so it gave us extra impetus. We’re surfing on that wave. Was working for him intimidating? Well… Wes Craven was one of my heroes since I was really young. And as well as being one
