Why the delay on Brown Field proposal?
About 10 years ago the city of San Diego designated 30-plus acres of the southeast corner of Brown Field as a transportation center. At that time an air cargo operation attempted to establish an air cargo facility at Brown Field. Part of the air cargo facility included a transportation center. Eventually, negotiations did not come to fruition and plans were dropped. Last January, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders announced plans to develop Brown Field and a “request for qualifications” was issued, which included any project on Brown Field. Six companies submitted their qualifications with one including the development of a transportation center. Since then, the city of San Diego has not been receptive to pursuing the development of the transportation center or anything else on Brown Field.
