Why the color purple for the FREEDOM IS NOT FREE wristband?
In Military tradition, the color purple represents sacrifice. George Washington chose the color purple for the first American award honoring the common soldier. The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy, and posthumously, to the next of kin, in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action. Thankfully, most members of the Armed Services are not awarded a Purple Heart. But all of them join the military with the knowledge that they may come into harms way defending our country. Therefore, we wear purple to thank and honor them all for their service and sacrifices.
