Why the burning wooden splinter extinguish when react with methane gas?

If the methane gas is pure methane, i.e., no oxygen, then the combustion reaction can not go because it is missing one of the reactants. I don’t know if your experiment was using pure methane or not. If the test tube was supposed to contain both methane and oxygen or methan and air, there should have been a reaction.
