The very youngest drivers are also more likely to engage in risky behaviors such as speeding and tailgating. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that the part of the brain that weighs risks, makes judgments and controls impulsive behavior is still developing in teens, and does not mature until about age 25. GDL introduces beginners into the driving population in a low-risk manner, protecting them and others.
