Why support Early Care and Education at the Ossining Childrens Center?
The Ossining Children’s Center was founded in 1895 to provide educational and enriching care to the children of immigrant women whose husbands were killed or disabled while working on the railroad or the Croton Aqueduct. From the outset, child care at the Center was stimulating and nurturing, rather than just custodial. Historically and today, the Center maintains a firm commitment to making the highest quality child care available to working families at every income level. The heart of the Center’s mission is its generous tuition assistance policy, supported by philanthropic gifts from the community and some government assistance. The Children’s Center might be more aptly titled, “The Ossining Center for Family Empowerment,” because support for the entire family unit has always been part of its mission.
