Why study Geographical Information Systems (GIS)?
GIS is becoming increasingly important in the study of human activity. It involves the use of computer technology and spatial information to study natural processes and the interaction of humans with their environment. Many GIS theoretical concepts and methodologies originate from a wide range of professional areas including ecology, mathematics, cartography, surveying, geography and environmental science. However, its application readily extends to other fields including archaeology, criminal justice, indigenous studies, history and public policy. Moreover, there is currently a strong demand for graduates who have GIS skills together with skills in another area of study.
