Why Study Environmental Science at UPR?
One of the main reasons to study Environmental Science in the University of Puerto Rico is the accessibility to a wide diversity of natural resources. The tropics are one of the most diverse regions of the world and offer high potential for hands-on experiences of research and the application of theoretical knowledge. Environments of Puerto Rico include coral reefs, seagrass communities, sand and stone beaches, tropical rain forest, tropical dry forest, subterranean karstic systems, mangroves, riparian ecosystems, and urban ecosystems. The Program encourages and offers students the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of research including Research Experience Undergraduate (REU), summer courses, and other extracurricular research experiences. Most of the programs provide stipends to conduct research, especially during summer, and allow students to increase their scientific writing skills and gain valuable experience for graduate school or for future careers in environmental sci
