Performance courses – additional information (994.71 KB) Exploration of the role of language and writing is at the heart of contemporary performance practices. Working alongside the Performance and Directing students, this course focuses on the ways that writers are implicated in the creation of collaboratively devised work, and on techniques for generating texts for stimulating, professional-quality new performances. You’ll look at recent histories and practices of writing in, and for, theatre and be introduced to a spectrum of writing practice through both practical workshops and theoretical study. These include sources to stimulate writing (including adapting existing texts) and responding to images, spaces and other stimuli. You’ll discuss language, explore different modes and forms of writing – such as autobiographical, fictional, poetic, descriptive, song and conceptual – and learn about practices of collaborative writing, editing and re-writing that will be useful in your career
