In reaction to Harry Larson and others who are touting a 55 mph speed-limit law, I would ask, why arbitrarily settle on 55 (“Act now to save gas,” Your Views, Dec. 18)? If people are really serious about conserving fuel, then really cut back. Air-drag coefficient drops dramatically as you near 40 mph, so I would think that should be the standard. Let’s set the limit on big rigs at 30 mph. Also, SUVs and pickups get bad mileage and are dangerous, so they should be limited to 30 mph, as well. So what if we have to pay twice as much for everything and have no time at home with our families. If we save some fuel, and even one life while we’re at it, it will be worth it.
