Why some persons are obsessed with beef eating? Has it to do much with Hindu Philosophy or practice?
Eating or not eating beef has been undoubtedly a big obsession with the Hindus for long. It does not have any philosophical basis, what so ever. It has historical, social and economic back ground. India is an agricultural country grown by the side of river banks like those by the sides of the Ganges, the Sindhu, the Yamuna, the Saraswati, the Narmada, the Kaveri and the Godavari. The cattle is the primary aid with human beings to till the land. That apart for milk and milk products used for the religious rites the Indians were heavily dependent on the domesticated cows. As Indians were worshipping nature and its various forms like the Space, the Time, the Fire, the Sun, the Wind, the Water, the Forest etc. they were taking care of those beneficial natural wealth; they were also taking care of the beneficial Cow and also worshipping it like the legendary Kamadhenu, Nandini, Surabhi etc. The Cows were thus a primary part of the national economy and heritage in ancient India.
